Hotel Specialist (m/f/d)
Which topics from vocational school do you find particularly exciting?
Currently, I find the topic of "cutlery and tableware" at school particularly exciting. It is amazing how many different types exist and which ones are used for specific dishes.
What was the most curious or funniest moment you have experienced at work so far?
I have already experienced many funny moments. One highlight was our trainee outing, where I had a lot of fun. Equally unforgettable was the evening that we trainees took over and were allowed to invite friends and family. Both of these experiences brought me great joy and were really fun moments. I am already looking forward to our next trainee party!
What does a perfect workday look like for you?
For me, a perfect workday begins in service, ideally during a late shift from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM. On these evenings, I especially enjoy pampering guests with a 3-course meal. I always hope for many guests, as time passes faster and it is twice as much fun.
What tip would you give to someone wanting to enter your professional field?
In our profession, it is especially important to always be friendly, even on days when it feels difficult. You need to be able to look past certain things, even if that is not always easy.
Which tasks do you particularly enjoy doing, and which ones not so much?
I particularly enjoy working in service. Here, serving guests during the evening business brings me the most joy. On the other hand, I am less enthusiastic about the housekeeping/public area, as it starts very early and is physically demanding. This is a challenge that, compared to service, is not quite to my taste.
How do you handle shift work?
I cope well with shift work. Both early and late shifts have their pros and cons. The downside of the early shift is waking up early, whereas you still have part of the day left after work. On the late shift, it is exact opposite: you sleep in longer, but you also get home late.
What do you like to do most in your free time?
To unwind, I like going for walks, reading, or tidying up. Time spent with my family is also an important balance for me that helps clear my head.
How do you deal with stressful situations? Are there specific strategies that help you?
I don't follow a specific strategy. Mostly, I just tell myself that I need to stay calm and relaxed, and then everything will turn out fine.
Thank you very much for the interview, Lena!
